Alif Episode 22 Story Review – The Revelation

Alif (Drama Series) – In times when films were the most potent means of entertainment, and the television industry was beginning to take roots- Drama emerged from the screens of PTV as a prime time show and became its identity. Owing to its origin to word drāo meaning to act, dramas play the role of mirror that enables the society on individual and collective levels to see the faultlines: moral, ethical, social, and political. In Pakistan, television drama has seen its days of glory and struggle. But the gripping stories, apt characterizations with catchy and thought-provoking dialogues, its legacy remains intact.

The outburst of private production houses and then private television channels pretty much redefined the norms, and ways drama is created and presented. The topics became commercialized, and the concept of TRP seemed to overrule the subject of drama. With so much choice and variety, dramas and their stories needed more creativity and ideations. The actors, while portraying their characters, also needed to up their ante if they desired recognition from viewers. While there was right, there was also wicked and while much escaped the attention of the viewers, some left its indelible imprints on the mind of the viewers. But still, many dared to write and create dramas that deviated from the prevailing norms. Alif is one such drama that stands tall and apart in the hustle and bustle of dramas centered around love, deception, and family politics.
